Hyderabad: Seven new Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) took oath on Monday. They include three from the Congress party, two from the BJP, one from the CPI, and one from the Progressive Recognised Teachers’ Union (PRTU). Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy administered the oath.
A total of eight MLCs were elected recently through elections in the graduates, teachers, and MLA quota categories. The leaders who took oath include Vijayashanti, Addanki Dayakar, Sripal Reddy, Shankar Nayak, Nellikanti Satyam, Malka Komuraiah, and Anji Reddy.
Many prominent leaders attended the ceremony. This included Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, Rajya Sabha member Dr Lakshman, MP Raghunandan Rao, MLC Avin Reddy, senior Congress leader K Jana Reddy, and Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy.
According to sources in the BRS party, Dasoju Sravan, who was also elected, will take oath the next day. Vijayashanti, Addanki Dayakar, and Shankar Nayak from the Congress, Nellikanti Satyam from the CPI, and Dasoju Sravan from the BRS were elected unopposed in the MLA quota. BJP’s Anji Reddy and Malka Komuraiah won in the graduates and teachers MLC elections in Karimnagar. Sripal Reddy from PRTU won the teacher MLC seat from Khammam.
After taking his oath, Anji Reddy thanked Union Minister Kishan Reddy for his support. He criticized the Congress government for not fulfilling its promises to unemployed youth. He said he would raise this issue in the Council and demanded that the government clear pending bills of educational institutions. He also opposed the government’s plan to sell HCU lands and condemned the police action against students.
Malka Komuraiah said he would work to solve problems in the education system. He stated that the BJP’s win in the MLC elections shows the party’s growing strength and expressed confidence that the BJP will form the government in the state soon.
