South Central Railway (SCR) in Hyderabad has reached a new record by earning its highest-ever gross revenue of Rs 8,593 crore from April to August 2025. This surpasses the previous record of Rs 8,457 crore from the same period last year. The main reason for this growth is the increase in freight traffic.

During this time, the Zone transported 60.4 million tonnes (MTs) of freight, generating Rs 5,634 crore in freight income. This is the best performance yet and shows a 6.7% rise compared to the 56.6 MTs loaded last year. Passenger traffic also grew significantly, with SCR earning Rs 2,500 crore in passenger revenue, up 2.2% from Rs 2,445 crore the previous year, carrying 119 million passengers.

The main goods boosting freight growth were coal (28.5 MTs), cement (15.7 MTs), iron ore (3.6 MTs), fertilizers (3.0 MTs), raw materials for steel plants (2.5 MTs), food grains (2.5 MTs), and other items (4.6 MTs). Officials highlighted that effective wagon management and careful monitoring of freight train movement were key to this success.

General Manager Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava praised the SCR team for their dedication. He highlighted that focusing equally on freight and passenger services has allowed the Zone to excel in both areas.

This achievement strengthens SCR’s status as a leading railway zone, significantly contributing to Indian Railways’ revenue and efficiency.
