Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad has rejected petitions seeking disqualification of five MLAs who were alleged to have defected from their party. The Speaker stated that there is insufficient evidence to warrant disqualification proceedings against the legislators.
The petitions were filed seeking action under the anti-defection law against the five MLAs. However, after examining the submissions and evidence presented, Speaker Gaddam Prasad concluded that the allegations do not meet the threshold required for initiating disqualification proceedings.
In his decision, the Speaker clarified that the five MLAs in question continue to remain with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party. He emphasized that there is no concrete evidence to suggest that these legislators have violated the provisions of the anti-defection law.
The anti-defection law, enshrined in the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, provides for disqualification of elected members who voluntarily give up their party membership or vote against party directives on crucial matters.
Speaker Gaddam Prasad stated that the MLAs remain with the BRS party and there is no evidence warranting disqualification proceedings against them.
