Hyderabad: On Saturday, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy shared his views on current political trends, calling them ‘Swiggy politics.’ He explained that this approach prioritizes quick results over strong ideologies, which he sees as a worrying shift. Political figures now emphasize speed and often rely on volunteers for tasks.
Speaking at the S Jaipal Reddy Democracy Award event, organized by ICFAI and Capital Foundation Society, Revanth Reddy expressed his concerns about the growing influence of money in politics. He warned that democracy is at risk if this trend continues. He emphasized the need for politics grounded in values and ideologies.
Revanth Reddy highlighted the shift from ideological politics to a focus on rapid delivery, a trend he believes threatens democratic principles. He noted that those committed to ideology are dwindling, which could lead India into perilous territory. The rise of political managers and the replacement of activists with volunteers, he said, poses a risk to the country’s democratic future.
Reflecting on S Jaipal Reddy’s legacy, Revanth Reddy praised the former Union Minister for standing firm on his beliefs. Jaipal Reddy, he noted, had no enemies, only opponents, and sought no positions. Both PV Narasimha Rao and Jaipal Reddy were instrumental in gaining legislative recognition for this region. Revanth Reddy acknowledged Jaipal Reddy’s crucial role in the creation of Telangana State, stating that without his efforts, the state might not exist today.
