Telangana Allocates ₹10,188 Crore for Home Department in 2025-26 Budget
Increased Budget for Home Department
Telangana’s Finance Minister, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, has allocated ₹10,188 crore to the Home Department for the 2025-26 financial year. This is ₹624 crore (6.52%) more than the previous year’s budget of ₹9,564 crore. The Home Department’s budget makes up 3.35% of the state’s total budget, which stands at ₹3,04,965 crore.
Focus on Technology and Infrastructure
While presenting the budget in the Telangana Assembly, Mr. Vikramarka stressed the government’s focus on using technology to improve policing. He highlighted plans to enhance infrastructure, making law enforcement more transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly. The government is also prioritizing drug control and better educational opportunities for police families.
New Residential School for Police Families
A new school, the Young India Police Residential School, will be set up in Manchirevula village, Ranga Reddy district. Similar to Sainik Schools, this institution will provide high-quality education to children of police personnel, including those who died in the line of duty. Families of fire services, excise, special protection, and prison department staff will also benefit from this initiative.
The school will have world-class infrastructure, including modern sports facilities, hostels, and a strong academic setup to promote overall development.
Wage Hike for Home Guards
The budget also brings good news for home guards, as their daily wage will increase from ₹921 to ₹1,000. Additionally, if a home guard dies due to an accident or a natural cause while on duty, their family will receive ₹5 lakh as financial support.
Stronger Measures Against Drug Abuse
The Telangana government is taking a strict stance against drug-related crimes. Mr. Vikramarka stated that no one involved in drug abuse or trafficking will be spared, no matter their influence or status.
In the past year, drugs worth ₹148 crore were seized, and tough action has been taken against suppliers. To prevent drug abuse, the state IT Department and the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) have developed the Mitra App. This app, powered by artificial intelligence, helps parents and teachers identify early signs of drug use in students.
Currently, the Mitra App is being used in 1,000 schools in Hyderabad, but the government plans to expand its use across the state to further combat drug abuse.
