The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in several Telangana districts on Tuesday and Wednesday. A surface depression in the northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to turn into a low-pressure system in 24 hours. This, along with the monsoon trough, is likely to cause heavy rain in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad, Mulugu, and Warangal. Other areas might see moderate rain, thunder, lightning, and winds of 30-40 kmph.
Over the past five days, the state has seen less rain, causing a slight rise in temperatures. As August ends, ten districts in Telangana still have less rainfall than needed, with the state average dropping. Earlier in the month, heavy rains increased the average rainfall to 14% above normal by the 18th. However, rain has decreased since, leading to a 9% deficit by Monday.
Nirmal district received only 44% of its usual rainfall, while Peddapalli got 21%. Other districts with notable shortages are Jayashankar Bhupalpally (13%), Nalgonda (13%), Nizamabad (12%), Jagityal (12%), Rajanna Sircilla (11%), Mancherial (10%), Sangareddy (6%), and Medchal Malkajgiri (4%).
