Hyderabad: On Monday, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka led a Cabinet sub-committee to discuss BC reservations. They sought advice from MP and Supreme Court Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Justice Sudarshan Reddy, a Vice Presidential candidate.
The meeting took place in Delhi with Rajya Sabha MP and ministers. The main topic was the state government’s options after the Telangana High Court ordered local body elections by September 30. They focused on implementing 42% reservations for Backward Classes in these elections. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Seethakka, Sridhar Babu, and others met with Sudarshan Reddy for his input, as he is on the state’s Expert Committee on reservations.
Bhatti informed the media that they consulted top legal experts to address BC reservations. They explained the situation to Singhvi, who gave them advice. These suggestions will be discussed in the Cabinet meeting on August 29.
Later, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM, and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy met with AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal. They talked about the state’s political climate and sought guidance on local polls.
They highlighted the success of the Janahita Padayatra, led by PCC President and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud with AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, receiving strong public support. They stated that conditions were right for elections and that BC reservations were under legal review before making a final decision.
