The crypto market has been wondering when altcoins will finally have their moment. According to Jamie Coutts, Chief Crypto Analyst at Real Vision, the altcoin season may already be underway or at least in its early stages.
During a recent interview with Milk Road, Coutts shared his thoughts on when the market might experience a full-blown altcoin season. While it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact timing, Coutts mentioned that several indicators suggest that we’re already seeing the initial signs.
Coutts referred to an alt season index he tracks, which compares the performance of the top 200 equal-weighted tokens against the market cap-weighted index. He noted that the market recently reached a level similar to what was seen at the end of 2020, right before altcoins had an impressive 6 to 12-month run. Coutts believes that we’re currently in the early stages of an altcoin season.
Coutts emphasized that this altcoin cycle will be different from the speculative runs of the past. Unlike previous cycles where almost any token could experience a pump, the current market shows dispersion, meaning not all altcoins are moving together.
He explained that the most sustainable gains will likely come from projects with strong fundamentals and real adoption. Investors should focus on tokens backed by meaningful usage and ecosystems.
In terms of duration, Coutts stated that these altcoin outperformance phases typically last around three to six months. During this time, targeted growth can be expected in select altcoins, with strong fundamentals differentiating the winners from the rest.
