Hyderabad Students Set Guinness World Record with Grand Kuchipudi Performance
Three young students from Hyderabad have earned a spot in the Guinness World Records after taking part in the largest-ever Kuchipudi group dance. The record-breaking event took place on December 23, 2023, at Gachibowli Stadium, organized by the Bharath Art Academy.
One of the record-setters is Gangone Dhrithi, just eight years old, and a student at Pallavi Model School, Alwal. She completed 20 precise knee-to-elbow steps in just 30 seconds under the under-16 category. Her teachers and parents say she trained hard, focusing on balance, timing, and confidence. Dhrithi is no stranger to the stage — she often represents her school in cultural events and inter-school dance contests.
Another proud record-holder is M. Anjana Sree, a ninth-grade student. She was one of the 4,218 dancers who performed the synchronized Kuchipudi routine. “It felt amazing to be part of something so big,” she said. “When we found out we broke the old record, we celebrated with our families and teachers.” After waiting for 18 months, she finally received her Guinness certificate and medal, along with her friend and classmate Hamsini.
A third student from the same academy also achieved the record by completing the required steps within the time limit.
Officials from Bharath Art Academy called the event a major achievement for classical dance in the region. They believe it sets a strong example for young dancers and encourages more students to explore Indian traditional dance.
This success not only highlights the talent of Hyderabad’s youth but also puts a global spotlight on Kuchipudi, one of India’s most celebrated classical dance forms.
