Hyderabad: Congress Workers Urged to Ensure Success of Caste Census

At a meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, organized by Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC) president Mohammed Waliullah Sameer, Mahesh Goud spoke about the need for a caste-based census in India. He explained that the census would help distribute resources and wealth fairly according to the population, ensuring better representation in welfare and development schemes. He also mentioned that the Congress party had initiated discussions on this issue to promote fairness.

Mahesh Goud further noted that Congress had conducted similar meetings in all districts on the same day, involving intellectuals, student leaders, and community representatives to talk about the upcoming caste census. This effort is meant to create awareness and gather support for the initiative.

Hyderabad DCC president Waliullah Sameer also addressed the meeting. He emphasized that every Congress worker in Hyderabad would contribute to reaching 100% coverage of the census. He explained that the party’s goal is to inform the public about the welfare and development objectives tied to the census. To ensure smooth coordination, they plan to set up teams at the ward level.

Waliullah Sameer pointed out that around 14 socially and economically disadvantaged groups among Muslims in Telangana are classified under the BC-E category. He urged Muslims, who make up about 70% of the Old City’s population, to identify themselves as BC-E during the census. He listed several important groups in this category, such as Shaik, Siddi, Labbi, and others. He also advised groups like Syed, Pathan, and Shia, who are not currently part of BC-E, to ensure accurate self-identification during the census. This data, he said, would help the government plan targeted welfare programs.

The Hyderabad DCC chief expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm of Congress workers in supporting this initiative. He announced plans for an awareness campaign to ensure that all families in the Old City participate in the census. He stressed that with almost 90% of the Old City’s population facing economic difficulties, the caste census would help secure fair representation in welfare and development schemes.

Waliullah Sameer also praised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for his quick action in implementing the caste census. He highlighted Reddy’s commitment to Hyderabad’s development, mentioning the Musi Riverfront beautification project as a key initiative that would bring economic benefits to Old City residents. He also noted that the Congress government had initiated work on extending the Metro Rail to the Old City area.

Finally, Waliullah Sameer congratulated TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud on his recent appointment and promised full support for his leadership.
