Hyderabad: The two main reservoirs supplying drinking water to Hyderabad, Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar, are experiencing rising water levels thanks to consistent inflows. Currently, Osman Sagar holds water at 1,787.00 feet, with a storage capacity of 3.221 TMC. This is close to its full tank level of 1,790.00 feet, as it receives 700 cusecs of water. No water is being released yet, and all gates are shut while officials keep a close watch on the situation.
Himayat Sagar is also maintaining good levels. Its current water level is 1,761.90 feet, storing 2.586 TMC, just below its full capacity of 1,763.50 feet. It gets 500 cusecs of inflow, and an outflow of 330 cusecs is managed by opening one gate by one foot. This ensures a controlled release of water downstream. These reservoirs, often called Hyderabad’s lifelines, continue to benefit from monsoon rains, filling up their catchment areas. Authorities are monitoring the levels carefully and will take actions as needed based on future rainfall.
