Hyderabad: On Sunday, BRS Working President KT Rama Rao criticized Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s plans for the so-called “Future City.” Rao argued that this project has no future and accused Reddy of wanting to turn the Hyderabad Pharma City lands into a real estate venture for personal gain.
Rao condemned the Congress government’s handling of the Telangana Pharma City lands. He labeled Reddy as lacking vision, leading to wasted public funds. Rao expressed concern for the farmers who had given their lands for the Pharma City project, feeling they were deceived. He criticized the cancellation of the original Pharma City initiative by the KCR government and its replacement with an unrealistic “Future City,” calling it an example of poor governance.
According to Rao, the Land Acquisition Act of 2013 prohibits using land acquired for public purposes for private real estate. He reminded that he had cautioned the Congress government about this issue in the Assembly two years ago. Despite this warning, Reddy’s government spent a significant amount on public relations, now facing serious legal obstacles.
Rao shared that under the BRS government, plans were made for Hyderabad Pharma City using 20,000 acres across 56 villages. Local farmers willingly offered their land for state development. However, while the Congress promised to return the land to farmers, Reddy’s government is accused of betraying them by turning the land into a real estate project for personal connections. Rao expressed anger over the uncertain future of land meant for pharma companies.
He alleged that despite previous investments in infrastructure for Pharma City, Reddy’s government ignored it. They are now accused of illegally diverting the land for real estate under the guise of Future City.
