The victims, identified as J. Balu (36) and G. Mallesh (25), were tasked with removing the signboard of a company. The incident occurred at the Varalaxmi Arcade building, where Tati Ravi was preparing to open an office on the third floor. The two workers were carrying out the job under his direction.

According to Nacharam Sub-Inspector B. Venkataiah, the workers tied the signboard to wires and began pulling it down when it accidentally slipped and fell onto nearby power cables. This caused an electric shock, and both men were electrocuted and collapsed on the terrace of the building.
