In Gadwal, after a report in The Hans India titled “Speeding School Bus Rams Into Vehicles. Locals Blame Corruption Within RTO,” officials from the Road Transport Office (RTO) conducted thorough checks at private schools in the district.
The Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Mr. Venkateswara Rao, stated that six school buses from private schools in Aija and Shanthinagar were seized on Tuesday. These buses did not meet the required safety and fitness standards.
Mr. Rao, who led the inspections, noted that the buses lacked valid fitness certificates, endangering student safety. He stressed that all school buses must adhere to transport regulations, particularly those regarding safety and roadworthiness.
He warned private school administrations to ensure their buses are safe and have valid fitness certificates. He also highlighted the importance of hiring experienced and licensed drivers, as driver negligence and unfit buses can lead to dangerous situations.
“The safety of school children is non-negotiable,” Mr. Rao stated, adding that more inspections would follow. Schools violating transport rules will face strict legal consequences.
The inspections follow public concerns about school transport safety and alleged RTO corruption, noted in The Hans India report. The district’s quick response has been praised by parents and the public, hoping for better regulation and accountability in school transport.
The RTO also urged parents to stay alert and report any unsafe transport practices to the authorities.
