University of Hyderabad teams up with ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition

Hyderabad: On January 29, 2026, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) and the ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR-NIN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a new partnership.

This collaboration focuses on enhancing academic ties, advancing research, and building capacity in nutrition and public health.

ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition is a premier public nutrition research institution in India. With over a century of contributions, it has significantly influenced national nutrition policies and programs, continuously supporting public health improvements nationwide.

The agreement between UoH and ICMR-NIN will last for five years. During this time, they plan to collaborate on various academic and research activities, including joint education programs, faculty exchanges, and new joint PhD programs. The partnership also aims to organize symposiums and conferences and secure research grants for joint projects.

Students and research scholars from UoH will gain from internship and placement opportunities at ICMR-NIN due to this institutional partnership.

At the MoU signing at UoH, Dr. Devesh Nigam, Registrar of UoH, and Dr. Bharati Kulkarni, Director of ICMR-NIN, signed the agreement with Vice Chancellor Prof. BJ Rao in attendance.

The event saw participation from Prof. Samrat Sabat, Director of the R&D Cell, Deans of the Schools of Medical Sciences and Engineering Sciences and Technology, along with faculty and staff.

Prof. BJ Rao emphasized the need for robust connections between researchers from both institutions and expressed interest in developing mobile food and nutrition testing labs to offer scientific services to communities.

Dr. Bharati Kulkarni shared insights into the institute’s growth over the last century and expressed optimism about the collaboration’s potential impact nationally and globally.

Prof. Ramesh K Mishra, Dean of the School of Medical Sciences, highlighted the opportunity to research the link between nutrition and cognition and showed interest in co-hosting a symposium on this topic.

Prof. BR Shamanna outlined the MoU and upcoming activities, while Dr. B Santosh Kumar and Dr. Sairam Challa, scientists from ICMR-NIN, participated as coordinators from the institute.
