The Telangana Assembly meeting on Wednesday is expected to be contentious as the Congress government plans to present a white paper on state finances through a power point presentation. They are considering two options – giving a power point presentation or releasing a detailed white paper followed by a debate.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, who also serves as the Finance minister, have met with officials to gather sector-wise expenditure data of the previous government and its impact on year-wise growth. The presentation will also include details of loans taken for major projects like Kaleshwaram, Mission Bhagiratha, and Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Scheme, in order to demonstrate lack of accountability in the previous government’s spending.
Former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, currently recovering from surgery, has held a meeting with former Finance minister Harish Rao to counter the government’s politically-motivated charges. The opposition party, BRS, has requested equal opportunity to present their counter-argument through a power point presentation.
The BRS, now in the opposition, is preparing statistical data on the financial situation, loans raised, assets created, and the high value of assets compared to loan liability. They aim to highlight their prudent financial management and shift the blame for future financial problems onto the new government’s electoral promises.
Harish Rao will emphasize how state policies have contributed to making Telangana the highest per capita income state and the highest per capita power consuming state in the country.
