Hyderabad – A group of senior women leaders from the Telangana Mahila Congress held a surprise protest on Wednesday, voicing their frustration over being overlooked within the party.
The protest took place at Gandhi Bhavan, the party’s state headquarters. The women, led by Mahila Congress State President M Sunitha Rao, staged a sit-in right outside the office of PCC President B Mahesh Kumar Goud, who was not present at the time.
The demonstration caught party officials off guard. The women demanded fair treatment and recognition for their years of service to the Congress. Many of them have worked with the party for over 20 to 30 years.
They expressed anger over being sidelined when the party distributed important positions such as Corporation chairperson roles and other leadership posts. Despite their active involvement in protests and campaigns against the previous BRS government, they now feel ignored.
Even as Kumar Rao, the party’s general secretary, tried to calm the protestors, the women continued shouting slogans, refusing to leave.
The protest highlights growing unrest within the party’s women’s wing, which says it deserves a greater voice and stronger representation in leadership decisions.
