Telangana Police Launches Gender Sensitisation Programme for Students

The Women Safety Wing of the Telangana Police Department has announced a new initiative to train 1,036 students from Zilla Parishad High Schools. This pilot project focuses on promoting gender sensitisation in schools to address issues like gender inequality, crimes against women, and gender-based violence.

The programme aims to prevent crimes through awareness and education. At the launch event on Monday, Shikha Goel, Director General of the Women Safety Wing, introduced the ‘Gender Sensitisation Pilot Training Programme.’ This initiative will train 8th and 9th-grade students from three schools: ZPHS Uppal, ZPHS Nagole, and ZPHS Ramanthapur. The training will cover critical topics such as gender equality, gender-based violence, and building healthy gender relationships.

Shikha Goel emphasized that personality development is more than just academic progress. She highlighted the importance of teaching students about healthy relationships and human values as part of their overall growth. Adolescence, she noted, is a period when students have many questions about their physical, mental, and emotional changes. Addressing biases and prejudices at this stage can help shape them into responsible individuals.

The Women Safety Wing also discussed how societal norms, cultural influences, and stereotypes affect children’s understanding of gender roles. The programme aims to teach both boys and girls to develop the right perceptions of gender roles and responsibilities. These lessons are essential for fostering a safer and more inclusive society.

By teaching life skills and promoting respect and equality, the initiative provides students with knowledge and tools that will benefit them throughout their lives. This pilot project is a step toward creating a more inclusive and respectful environment in schools.
