Hyderabad: Churches in Hyderabad were filled with prayers and devotion on Good Friday, as many people gathered early in the morning to take part in the special events. Devotees came to see the Passion Play, a performance showing the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and to offer their prayers.
Most churches started their special prayer sessions early in the day. Catholic churches across the city held meditations in different languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and English. Along with prayer services and meditation, churches like St Mary’s Basilica, St George’s Church, Joseph’s Church, Calvary Temple, and Methodist Church organized the Passion Play. This included the “Way of the Cross,” where people carried wooden crosses to remember Jesus’ final journey.
St Mary’s Basilica, one of the oldest churches in Hyderabad, had a large number of people attending. The pastor shared that prayer services began in the morning and continued until 3 pm, ending with meditation on the last seven sayings of Jesus on the cross. In the evening, the church held a special service to honor the crucifixion.
At Calvary Temple, a senior pastor said that about 2,500 people came for prayers in the morning and evening. The church also hosted a play to help people remember Jesus Christ’s sacrifice, showing how He gave His life to save humanity from sin.
