The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday temporarily closed 16 Metro stations across Central Delhi until further notice, citing security reasons amid heightened police deployment in the national capital. The closures affected thousands of commuters during peak office hours, leading to delays and congestion across key transit corridors.
According to the DMRC, trains will continue to operate on the affected routes but will not halt at the closed stations. However, interchange facilities remain available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat, allowing passengers to switch lines where permitted. Authorities have advised commuters to plan alternate routes and check official travel updates before beginning their journey.
The stations closed until further notice are: Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium.
The restrictions come amid ongoing protests in Central Delhi, with security agencies increasing surveillance to maintain public order. The sudden closure of several major interchange and business district stations caused inconvenience for office-goers, students, and tourists, many of whom were forced to rely on buses, cabs, or longer walking routes to reach their destinations.
Officials have urged commuters to follow DMRC advisories, cooperate with security personnel, and avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas until normal operations resume.
