Hyderabad witnessed a terrifying fire on Thursday when flames erupted in a three-storey building at Afzalgunj. Thick smoke quickly filled the air, triggering panic among nearby residents and shopkeepers.
The fire began on the first floor and rapidly spread upward. Plastic disposables stored on the first two levels fueled the flames, making the situation worse. As the fire grew, smoke filled the stairwell, trapping families inside.
Eight people, including an infant and an elderly woman, were stuck on the third floor. They rushed to the balcony for air and help. Firefighters used ladders, cranes, and a Bronto skylift to reach them through the windows. All eight were rescued safely, though they suffered minor injuries.
The Fire Services Department responded with four fire engines. Police also helped control the situation. After hours of effort, the crew managed to put out the blaze. Despite the rescue, the entire building was destroyed.
Investigators believe a short circuit in a first-floor flat may have caused the fire. Officials are now checking the building to ensure it’s structurally safe before anyone can return.
The Afzalgunj police and fire officials have launched a full investigation into the incident.
