Kothagudem: A total of 86 members of the banned CPI (Maoist) group from Chhattisgarh surrendered to the police in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Saturday.
According to officials, they surrendered before S Chandrashekhar Reddy, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Multi Zone-I. Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju told the media that four of the surrendered members were Area Committee Members (ACMs), each with a reward of Rs 4 lakh on their heads.
The police said that the Maoists decided to give up their activities because they realized the group was following outdated ideas and had lost the trust and support of the local tribal communities. The Telangana police are encouraging other Maoists who wish to leave the group and live a normal life to contact their local police station, district officials, or reach out through their family members.
