Hyderabad:
Amazon Inc is planning to invest more in expanding its data centers and workforce in Hyderabad. The company has shown great interest in growing its operations in this area.
A team of Amazon’s senior leadership, led by AWS Data Centre Vice President Kerry Person, recently met with Telangana’s IT and Industries Minister, D Sridhar Babu. During the meeting, the Telangana team encouraged Amazon to strengthen its data center activities in the state.
Amazon already has a significant presence in Telangana. It has its largest corporate building in the world located in Hyderabad. In 2023, Amazon also launched its air cargo network, ‘Amazon Air’, in the city. Hyderabad is a strategic region for Amazon Web Services (AWS), where three large data centers are already running. Plans are in place to expand these operations, including building a new hyper-scale data center, which is essential for AI and machine learning services.
Minister Sridhar Babu expressed that the discussions with Amazon were very positive and successful. He assured Amazon of the state’s full support and incentives to help them achieve their goals in Hyderabad. He expects a significant expansion of Amazon’s presence in Telangana.
Kerry Person shared his excitement about expanding AWS’s cloud infrastructure in Hyderabad. He emphasized that the AWS Region in Hyderabad will be crucial for AWS’s growth in India, especially in supporting artificial intelligence in the future. AWS is dedicated to helping Telangana achieve its digital goals and contributing to India’s trillion-dollar digital economy.
With AWS’s business expansion in Telangana, the state is set to strengthen its position as a leading hub for cloud and data center infrastructure in India. Amazon provides various cloud services, including computing, storage, databases, networking, machine learning, and analytics, which will now also include AI services.
Amazon is headquartered in Washington DC, USA, and has a market value of over $1.89 trillion. It employs more than 1.5 million people worldwide, Kerry Person added.
