Hyderabad: The Congress is expected to announce its candidate for the Jubilee Hills by-election in a few days. However, there is some disagreement within the party. Anjan Kumar Yadav, a senior leader and former MP, criticized city in-charge minister Ponnam Prabhakar over the candidate selection process.
A committee of three ministers, led by Prabhakar, recommended three names to the party leadership, excluding Yadav’s. They chose Naveen Yadav, B Ramomhan, and another leader as potential candidates. Anjan Kumar Yadav had hoped to be considered but was overlooked.
Yadav expressed frustration, pointing out that his son already holds a Rajya Sabha MP position, and he was told this disqualified him for another family ticket. He argued that other senior leaders have successfully secured tickets for their family members.
Yadav believes he is the most senior leader in the city and deserves the party’s nomination for the election.
Meanwhile, Congress State in-charge Meenkashi Natarajan conducted a virtual meeting with party leaders. She urged them to ramp up their campaign efforts in Jubilee Hills as the Election Commission is expected to announce the election date soon.
Natarajan also assessed the party’s preparedness for local body elections, aiming for a majority win. Additionally, she instructed leaders to ensure the success of the “vote chori” initiatives across the state and reviewed the progress of their signature campaign in villages.
