In Nirmal, the local elections in the former Adilabad district have usually been a direct competition between the BRS and Congress parties, with the BJP only contesting a few seats. This year, however, the BJP is becoming a strong contender for the local elections.
The BJP gained strength after Godam Nagesh won as an MP from Adilabad in the recent parliamentary elections. Also, Anjireddy and Komurayya succeeded in the Graduate and Teachers MLC elections held a few months ago. These successes have motivated the party to plan for a major presence in the upcoming Zilla Parishad, Mandal Parishad, and Panchayat elections.
State BJP Chief N Ramachander Rao stated that the party will compete for all seats in these local elections. Although there was a belief that the BJP had influence only in urban areas, recent voting trends are challenging this view.
Nagesh managed to secure a majority of votes for the BJP even in rural regions across seven Assembly constituencies in Adilabad, Nirmal, and Asifabad. This success has led the BJP to feel confident about its support in the villages as well.
Nagesh, along with MLCs Anjireddy and Komurayya, has been visiting the district regularly to engage with BJP members. Local MLAs like Mahesh Reddy, Payal Shankar, Ramarao Patel, and Harish Babu are also rallying party workers for the local body elections. The party is actively campaigning about various welfare and development initiatives taken by the government.
During their visits, BJP leaders are distributing pamphlets about Central government schemes. They emphasize the funds allocated for national highways, improved railway services, modern station upgrades, and construction of railway overbridges and high-level bridges at bypass junctions.
As the BJP prepares to contest most seats, it is focusing on strengthening its organizational structure. The party has reorganized its main units, various wings, and power centers, while also conducting training programs.
