Hyderabad: Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao criticized the Congress for creating a spectacle over Backward Classes (BC) reservations. He claimed that the Congress was misleading people by taking the issue to Delhi, organizing a Rail Yatra, and staging a protest at Jantar Mantar.
On Monday, Rao questioned the Congress’s motives, highlighting that the same party had promised 42% reservations for BCs in the Kamareddy Declaration. He noted that the BJP had supported the bill in the State Assembly without conditions and wondered why the Congress was causing a fuss now. “Their actions in Delhi show they don’t plan to implement BC reservations in the upcoming local elections,” he said.
Rao expressed worries about the ordinance’s lack of transparency, stating, “The State government issued an ordinance, and its contents are unknown.” A copy was sent to the State Governor. Rao criticized the state for reportedly sending a copy to the President of India, calling it unusual and unconstitutional. “Ordinance approval is the Governor’s role. Sending it to the President is questionable. Does any state send its ordinance to the President?” he asked.
Rao accused the Congress of trying to include 10% Muslim reservations in the 42% BC quota, which he said would damage the original BC reservations. He mentioned that the BJP had raised this concern, but the State government has not responded or explained.
“Congress has caused significant harm to the country,” Rao said, asserting that the people of Telangana would see through the Congress’s “game plan” and “gimmicks,” which he believed would not be taken seriously by the public.
