Hyderabad: On Wednesday, the Telangana High Court dealt with three criminal petitions involving Venkataramana Reddy Katipally, a BJP MLA from Kamareddy district. Justice Kunuru Lakshman presided over the case. Reddy requested the court to dismiss three criminal cases against him. The court sent notices to those who filed the complaints and postponed the hearing to July 10. The MLA does not need to appear in the lower court for now.
The cases involve incidents where Reddy and his supporters allegedly disobeyed police orders. On February 6, 2023, Reddy joined a protest called ‘vanta varpu’ in front of the Kamareddy municipal office. The next day, he took part in a ‘Bathukamma’ event, reportedly obstructing police duties. These cases are currently under the jurisdiction of the Special Judicial Magistrate of First Class for handling cases of MPs and MLAs in Hyderabad.
Justice Lakshman reviewed Reddy’s requests to dismiss proceedings in several criminal petitions, including CRLP.7386 of 2025, CC 322 of 2024, CRLP.7387 of 2025, and CRLP.7389 of 2025. These cases involve charges under Sections 143, 86341 r/w 34 of IPC.
