Hyderabad: Three BJP Members of Parliament (MPs) from Telangana have written a letter to the Central Empowered Committee, raising concerns about how the State government is handling land meant for the University of Hyderabad (UoH).
The MPs—Konda Vishweshwar Reddy from Chevella, L Raghunandan Rao from Medak, and Eatala Rajender from Malkajgiri—pointed out that the university was created under the Six-Point Formula and the University of Hyderabad Act of 1974. In 1975, the government of the then united Andhra Pradesh had given 2,300 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli to the university.
Over the years, parts of this land were given to other organizations. But as of November 20, 2012, the District Collector of Ranga Reddy district confirmed that 2,185.07 acres were still available to the university. This included 400 acres that had earlier been given to IMG Bharat.
Despite this, the current State government is reportedly taking a different view of the matter. This change has led to land encroachments on property originally meant for the university.
The MPs have asked the Central Empowered Committee to step in and protect the university’s land. They said this is important for the future of education and the University of Hyderabad.
