Khammam is seeing a political shift as Telangana BJP State President Ramchandra Rao announces the district is turning into a strong base for the BJP. During a Tuesday meeting with party members, Rao welcomed former communist workers interested in joining the BJP, noting a similar trend in West Bengal.
With local elections nearing, Rao detailed the BJP’s strategy, asserting the party will secure municipal and most MPTC seats in Khammam’s Zilla Parishad. He encouraged party workers and leaders to increase their efforts.
On the topic of BC reservation, Rao criticized the Congress party for its 42% reservation claim for Backward Classes in local elections, especially including an extra 10% for Muslims. He stated the BJP supports the BC reservation bill but opposes religion-based quotas, arguing, “Congress introduced a Muslim reservation bill, not a BC reservation bill.”
Rao accused Congress of not fulfilling their promises from the BC Declaration in Kamareddy, noting no actions have been taken 19 months into their government.
Highlighting central government contributions, Rao mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership led to Rs 450 crore in funding for Khammam, including green projects and four national highways. He stressed the BJP’s dedication to infrastructure as evidence of their commitment.
Rao refuted claims by Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao about fertilizer shortages. He provided data showing that Telangana needed 9.80 lakh metric tons of urea for the Rabi season, but the Centre supplied 12.02 lakh metric tons, surpassing needs. Rao called the state’s claims misleading and demanded the minister resign if he couldn’t challenge these figures.
