Gadwal celebrated World Blood Donor Day with a successful blood donation camp at the Rythu Vedika in Dharur Mandal. Local health and administrative officials actively participated in the event.
Dr. G. Raju, the Program Officer, highlighted the significance of donating blood voluntarily. He explained the science of blood compatibility, noting the importance of knowing blood groups for safe transfusions. “Blood groups are classified as A, B, AB, and O, based on antigens on red blood cells. Group A has A antigen, Group B has B antigen, AB has both, and O has none,” he detailed.
Dr. Vineema from the District Government Hospital Blood Center attended with her team. She discussed the Rh factor, explaining, “Blood is Rh-positive if red blood cells have the Rh factor; otherwise, it’s Rh-negative.”
Citing the World Population Review, Dr. Vineema shared India’s blood group distribution:
– A Positive: 21.8%
– A Negative: 1.36%

– B Negative: 2%
– AB Positive: 7.7%
– AB Negative: 0.48%
– O Positive: 32.53%
– O Negative: 2%
