Hyderabad: At a recent meeting, speakers praised K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), leader of BRS, for building the Kaleshwaram project on time, benefiting the state’s irrigation. They criticized current leaders for focusing on religion and ignoring the advantages of such important projects. The event, called ‘Telangana Water Resources… Agriculture… Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow’, was organized by the Telangana Social Foundation (TSF) at Shoebullah Hall in Sundarayya Vigyan Kendram on Sunday. Attendees mentioned that past leaders in Telangana started projects to support life and preserve fertile lands.
Former Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy highlighted the value of water and accused current leaders of neglecting irrigation policies. He praised past leaders, especially KCR, for recognizing that inadequate irrigation caused fertile lands to erode into the sea, making them unsuitable for farming. KCR’s efforts in building projects and storing water were seen as vital for future generations.
The BRS leader criticized the transfer of the state’s water shares to other states, blaming current leaders’ lack of vision. He pointed out that while past rulers took decades to complete projects like Nagarjunasagar, Srisailam, and Jurala, KCR finished the Kaleshwaram project in just three and a half years, providing irrigation to one crore acres. He also noted that 90% of the Palamuru Ranga Reddy projects were completed previously.
The former minister expressed concern over the current leaders’ inability to finish the remaining 10% of work. He warned that if this continues, future generations might need to find new places to live. The meeting included participants like CPM Secretary John Wesley, Sridhar Rao Deshpande, Venugopal Swamy, Ayachitam Sridhar, and Thanniru Venkatesham, and was chaired by Otendhu Narasimha Reddy.
