Hyderabad: BRS MLAs criticized the recent RTC fare hike on Tuesday, labeling the Congress government as unfriendly to the poor.
To protest and understand commuter challenges, BRS leaders D Sudheer Reddy, Kaleru Venkatesh, and Mutha Gopal took an RTC bus from Nampally Exhibition Grounds to the Assembly. They called for an immediate fare reduction.
During their journey, MLAs witnessed passengers expressing dissatisfaction with the fare increase. People complained about an extra monthly cost of up to Rs 500, which was a burden on them. Together with the passengers, they voiced their disapproval of the Congress government. After alighting near the Assembly, the MLAs spoke to the media, reiterating their stance that the fare hike was unjust to the common people. They also mentioned previous increases in vehicle taxes and liquor prices.
The MLAs criticized Revanth Reddy for his alleged attempts to raise fares whenever possible, accusing him of pushing RTC towards financial ruin. They pointed out that increased bus pass fares were already straining students, and now further fare hikes added to everyone’s burden. They questioned if this was the change meant for the people.
BRS leaders vowed to continue advocating for the poor and pressuring the government until the fares are reduced.
