Hyderabad: An independent expert group has completed a detailed report on the caste census and delivered it to the state government on Saturday. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy urged the committee to examine differences between urban and rural areas. He assured that the government is committed to ensuring that welfare benefits reach all eligible individuals. The committee was also tasked with identifying public needs and providing suitable recommendations.
The survey revealed that there are 1,15,71,457 households in the state. Out of these, 1,12,36,849 families, representing 97.10%, have registered, covering a population of 3,55,50,759 individuals. The breakdown shows SCs make up 61,91,294 (17.42%), STs account for 37,08,408 (10.43%), BCs comprise 2,00,37,668 (56.36%), and 56,13,389 (15.89%) belong to other castes.
The report was presented to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy by an 11-member committee led by Justice P Sudarshan Reddy. Ministers and key officials attended the meeting. The committee praised the survey as scientific, reliable, and credible, suggesting it could serve as a national model.
Telangana conducted this unique social, economic, and caste survey to promote social justice and empower all communities. The state government formed an 11-member independent expert team, chaired by retired Supreme Court Judge Sudarshan Reddy, to analyze the survey data for policy-making. The committee found the data collection thorough and believed it would aid in developing new policies and refining existing ones, enhancing social justice, empowerment, and progress for disadvantaged groups.
