In Visakhapatnam, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained a shipping container suspected of carrying narcotic drugs mixed with dried yeast weighing around 25,000 kgs. The entire shipment was seized and a case was filed as part of ‘Operation Garuda’.
The CBI, with the help of the Customs Department and based on information received through Interpol, detained the container at Visakhapatnam Port. The container was originally shipped from Santos Port, Brazil, and was supposed to be delivered to a company in Visakhapatnam.
Initially, the container was declared to contain 1,000 bags of dried yeast totaling 25,000 kgs. However, upon further inspection using narcotics detection methods, it was found that the material actually contained narcotic drugs mixed with dried yeast. An FIR was filed against the consignee and others involved.
This operation revealed the involvement of an international criminal network that imports narcotics drugs by mixing them with other substances. In the past, CBI has conducted similar operations based on Interpol information to combat the global drug trade. Investigations into this case are ongoing.
