New Delhi / Hyderabad:
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday. During their meeting, he presented several key development requests and sought the Centre’s cooperation to fast-track major infrastructure projects in the state.
The Chief Minister asked the Prime Minister to approve the long-pending Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2 project. He explained that the state had submitted all necessary documents to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs back on November 4, 2024. Although the Centre asked for some clarifications, Telangana has already responded. Now, the CM wants the Union Cabinet to give final approval so the project can move forward.
Another major request was for the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project. Reddy asked the Centre to approve the Southern part of the RRR and begin construction at the same time as the Northern part. He warned that delays would raise costs and reduce the usefulness of the road network. He also confirmed that Telangana is ready to pay 50% of the land acquisition costs for the Southern section.
The CM also highlighted the importance of the proposed Regional Ring Railway and a greenfield highway connecting Bandar Port to a dry port near Hyderabad. These projects aim to improve logistics, support industries, and lower freight costs in the region.
Revanth Reddy requested strong central support to boost Telangana’s role in India’s semiconductor sector. He said the state is fully committed to the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and wants to become a leading hub for advanced electronics and chip manufacturing.
The meeting also focused on strengthening the defence sector in Hyderabad. The CM urged the Prime Minister to support projects by both Defence Public Sector Units (PSUs) and private joint ventures (JVs). He called for faster approvals for defence partnerships and offset contracts, which are key to bringing in global investments and increasing exports.
Reddy also proposed the creation of a dedicated approval channel to attract foreign defence firms. He emphasized that Hyderabad, a major defence manufacturing center, should host the next DefExpo. He pointed out that defence MSMEs need special incentives because of high initial investments and long development timelines.
In conclusion, the CM’s meeting with the Prime Minister covered a wide range of strategic projects. These include transportation, defence, and semiconductor manufacturing — all aimed at accelerating Telangana’s growth and integration with national development goals.
