Hyderabad: With heavy rains hitting parts of Telangana, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao reviewed the situation during a teleconference with district officials. The meeting focused on the impact of the weather on paddy procurement and upcoming agriculture activities ahead of the monsoon season.
Arvind Kumar, Special Chief Secretary of Revenue (Disaster Management), warned district collectors about a developing low-pressure area in both the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. He said this system could bring moderate to heavy rainfall across all districts over the next ten days.
To protect harvested paddy from rain damage, the Chief Secretary instructed officials to strictly follow standard operating procedures. He stressed the need for precautions to keep paddy procurement running smoothly during unexpected showers.
Farmers have already started preparing their fields due to early rains. Rao assured that the state has enough supplies of DAP fertilizer and seeds. He also urged immediate action against the sale of fake cotton seeds. District collectors must hold task force meetings to stop the spread of these illegal products. He emphasized that strict legal action would follow against anyone found selling spurious seeds.
To keep the public informed, Rao asked collectors to hold press briefings along with their district in-charge ministers. They should explain safety measures and share rain-related precautions with residents.
In Hyderabad, Rao instructed GHMC officials to cover all open manholes and drains to prevent accidents. He also directed them to ensure that traffic flow isn’t disrupted by waterlogging during heavy rain.
Director General of Fire Services, Nagi Reddy, added that all fire officers are being trained to handle emergencies. He said special rescue teams have been sent to areas near the Krishna and Godavari Rivers, which have experienced flooding in the past.
Officials across the state are on alert as they work to manage the effects of the approaching monsoon rains.
