Children in Hyderabad are enjoying the summer sporting camps organized by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). These camps offer a range of activities including indoor and outdoor games, swimming, crafts, and fitness. GHMC has been organizing the camps for children aged 6 to 16 years old for 37 days in 44 different sports, with 77 part-time coaches and 712 honorarium coaches appointed to assist. The corporation maintains 521 playgrounds, 26 sports complexes, 12 swimming pools, 5 tennis courts, 11 skating rinks, and 135 modern gym fitness centres across the city.
Last year, around 40,000 children participated in the camps, and this year has been no different. The GHMC charges a nominal fee of Rs 50 for cricket, tennis, badminton, and Rs 10 for other games. Children are being trained in cricket, karate, javelin throw, high jump, long jump, volleyball, hockey, judo, basketball, archery, badminton, and boxing.
The GHMC is also organizing a sports quiz competition to develop sports knowledge among students. The competition started on May 8 and will end on May 13. Prizes were given away to winning students at LB Nagar Zone in Uppal Stadium by Corporator Bannala Geetha Praveen and Games Inspector Venkat Reddy. Tournaments will be held from May 15 to May 19, and closing ceremonies are scheduled from May 26 to May 31.
