Gadwal: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has called for permanent positions for all contract and outsourcing workers in central and state government jobs. On Friday, Upper Narasimha, the District Vice President of CITU, presented this demand to Additional Collector Lakshminarayana at the district headquarters.
Narasimha criticized the government for using contract and outsourcing workers unfairly, demanding job security and permanent status for these employees. He condemned the practice of delaying salaries, even though these workers perform duties similar to regular government staff.
In Gadwal district, many departments have not paid wages for months. The Registration Department has pending wages since January 2024. SC hostel workers have not been paid for 10 months, BC hostels for six months, and several other departments have delays ranging from three to five months. Due to these delays, employees face financial hardships and, in some cases, harassment from officials.
Narasimha pointed out that delayed salaries and renewal orders create insecurity for workers. He questioned how employees could meet their basic needs like rent, education, and medical expenses when their wages are withheld. Many have resorted to taking loans to survive.
He also highlighted that 104 employees lack continuation orders, and gram panchayat workers are overloaded with tasks due to the multipurpose system. The government and agencies have failed to deposit workers’ PF contributions, neglected ESI implementation, and ignored Supreme Court rulings on contract labor.
The ruling Congress party was accused of not fulfilling its election promises about timely salaries and job security for contract and outsourcing workers.
CITU’s demands include:
- Permanency for all contract and outsourcing workers.
- A minimum monthly wage of ₹26,000 until regularization.
- Immediate issuance of renewal orders.
- Prompt deposit of pending PF contributions.
- Strict enforcement of ESI.
- Filling vacant government posts quickly.
- Reducing existing employees’ workload by hiring more staff.
Narasimha warned that if these demands are not met, CITU and affected workers will begin a prolonged protest.
District Panchayat Workers’ Union President Lakshman and outsourcing employees Devanna, Manyam, Raghu, Naveen, Srihari, Chandu, and Mahesh participated in the event.
