Hyderabad is improving road safety with a new tool. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) now uses the ‘Periodic Public Safety Inspection App’. This app, created with ArcGIS Field Maps, helps keep the city’s roads safer.
Field engineers can use the app on their phones to report problems. They can note issues like potholes, open manholes, and damaged areas. They can also spot open electrical boxes and poor barricades. The app allows them to take and upload geo-tagged photos right from the site.
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan explained that this app helps track problems as they happen. It makes inspections quicker and reporting more transparent, boosting road maintenance efficiency and safety.
The app’s features include quick detection of road damage and precise data collection. It uses GIS technology for decision-making and monitors problems with geo-tagged photos and GPS information. A centralized dashboard tracks these issues from the moment they’re found until they’re fixed, ensuring transparency and accountability.
The Commissioner highlighted that this is a big step in digitizing inspections and making city travel safer and smarter.
