City police chief wins award at World Police Summit in Dubai

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand has earned top international recognition for his fight against drugs. He received the ‘Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award’ at the World Police Summit (WPS) 2025, hosted by the Dubai Police.

The award celebrates Anand’s leadership of the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and its strong efforts to crack down on drug trafficking and abuse in the city. Over the past three years, the unit has launched major awareness campaigns and taken bold steps to stop the spread of drugs, especially among students and the youth.

The award ceremony took place at the Dubai Police Officers Club between May 13 and 16. Delegates from 138 countries attended the international summit. Anand proudly accepted the award and shared how honored he felt to compete and win among some of the world’s most advanced police forces.

He praised his team’s dedication, calling the victory a shared achievement. “This award reflects the hard work and smart strategies of our officers. It’s not just a win for Hyderabad or Telangana, but for the entire police force of India,” Anand said.

The recognition highlights H-NEW’s innovative methods in tackling narcotics. These include tracking drug routes, arresting key peddlers, monitoring educational institutions, and organizing anti-drug committees and rehab programs.

Anand also took part in a panel discussion during the summit. He spoke about the challenges India faces in controlling narcotics, especially after COVID-19. He shared insights on how drugs are smuggled into the country, the criminal networks behind them, and how awareness efforts are helping reduce the threat.

In total, twelve officers and innovators from twelve countries were honored across different law enforcement categories. Anand’s award stands out as a major win for India’s anti-drug mission on the global stage.
