Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is planning a walkathon (padayatra) on November 8 to promote the Musi Rejuvenation Project. He will walk for 6 kilometers at Sangem in Valigonda mandal, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district. This walk is set to coincide with his birthday, during which he will meet farmers who have been affected by the polluted waters of the Musi River.
This will be the Chief Minister’s first padayatra since he took office. The Musi Rejuvenation Project aims to clean up the Musi River by bringing water from the Godavari River, through the Mallanna Sagar project, to the Osman Sagar reservoir.
Before starting the walkathon, the Chief Minister and his family will visit the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Yadagirigutta to offer prayers. Afterward, he will inaugurate a pylon to mark the start of a new drinking water pipeline project under Mission Bhagiratha. This pipeline will cost over ₹200 crore and will supply drinking water to areas like Aler and Bhongir.
The padayatra will take place in Sangem, a place well known for the Musi River splitting into different streams. The walk will start near the Bhimalingam temple, and the Chief Minister will inspect the Bhimalingam and Dharma Reddy canals along the way. During the walk, he will talk to farmers about their concerns and explain how the polluted Musi River is harming the environment.
Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, who is organizing support from farmers for the Musi project, mentioned that the Chief Minister will address the public after the padayatra. Kiran Kumar Reddy also pointed out that the pollution in the Musi River is affecting nearly one lakh acres of farmland across six constituencies near Hyderabad. He emphasized that the pollution is causing significant damage to the lives of people in the combined Nalgonda district.
