Chief Minister Revanth Reddy may now shift focus to developing the Hyderabad-Bangalore corridor along NH-44 following substantial investment commitments secured for Future City during the recent Telangana Global Summit.
The Chief Minister is planning significant infrastructure improvements along this vital economic route connecting two of southern India’s major IT centers.
New 6-Lane Greenfield Highway Proposed
The state government has announced plans for a 6-lane greenfield highway that will run 10-15 kilometers parallel to NH-44. The project aims to cut travel time between Hyderabad and Bangalore from the current 8-9 hours to just 5 hours.
The proposed corridor will permit vehicle speeds up to 120 kilometers per hour, substantially improving connectivity between both cities.
Since expanding the existing NH-44 is not feasible due to various constraints, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for an alternative route.
The planning process involves evaluating three different alignments for the new highway. Officials have stated that approximately 100 meters of land acquisition will be necessary for the project.
The DPR is expected to be completed by February, after which the implementation timeline will be determined.
Defence Corridor Status Sought
CM Revanth Reddy has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare the Hyderabad-Bangalore stretch as a defence corridor. This designation could attract significant defence manufacturing investments to the region, generating employment and boosting economic activity along the corridor.
The Chief Minister has been indicating his plans for highway development through various announcements and policy statements in recent weeks.
Economic Impact Expected
The Hyderabad-Bangalore corridor ranks among the busiest routes in southern India, linking two major technology and business centers. Current travel time and road conditions have been persistent concerns for businesses and commuters.
The proposed infrastructure improvements are expected to facilitate better movement of goods and people, potentially encouraging more industries to establish operations along the route.
The development follows successful investment mobilization during the Telangana Global Summit, where Future City received substantial commitments from domestic and international investors.
Multiple projects are anticipated to emerge near RRR and outside RRR near Rajapur, where Pollepally SEZ is located.
The NHAI is currently working on technical aspects of the project, including surveying proposed alignments and assessing land requirements for the greenfield highway project.
