Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asked officials to speed up the Musi River Rejuvenation Project. He wants to turn the area around Mir Alam Tank into a top tourist attraction.
During a review meeting at the Command Control Centre, the Chief Minister looked at design plans for a new bridge over Mir Alam Tank and the proposed Gandhi Sarovar at Bapu Ghat. He said the tender process for building the bridge should begin in June. Before that, all surveys, reports, designs, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) must be completed.
Officials gave a presentation showing model designs created by consulting firms. The Chief Minister made several suggestions to improve the look and safety of the project.
The planned bridge will be 2.5 kilometres long and is expected to become a major landmark. CM Reddy stressed that it should be built to high standards, focusing on both safety and beauty. He also suggested creating three scenic islands in the tank with greenery and unique attractions to draw tourists.
Inspired by Singapore’s famous Gardens by the Bay, the Chief Minister wants the islands to include features like bird zones, waterfalls, and eye-catching decorations. He also proposed adding adventure and theme parks, amphitheatres, and venues for weddings and events.
The project plan includes boating, resorts, and hotels to offer a full recreational experience. CM Reddy said the tank’s water must be cleaned and kept safe. He wants the islands to be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, and all proposals should be included in the DPR.
He also told officials to think about future environmental issues. They must check how much water will be available and whether the area is at risk of flooding. Experts in water and environmental planning should be consulted, and all needed permissions must be obtained.
A key part of the plan is to connect the new island zone with the nearby Nehru Zoological Park. CM Reddy suggested improving the zoo’s facilities as part of the tourism project and asked for talks with zoo officials to explore upgrade options within the current rules.
The review meeting was attended by government advisors Vem Narender Reddy and Srinivas Raju, along with senior officials from the Municipal Administration and the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation.
With these steps, CM Revanth Reddy is working to bring new life to Hyderabad by combining environmental care with modern urban growth.
