The expansion works at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad are almost complete, with 98.7% progress as of December 31, 2023. The extension work, which aims to increase the airport’s capacity from 12 million to 34 million passengers, is now at 99.4% completion as of January 25, 2024. The report predicts that the expansion work will be finished by March 2024.
During the period from October to December 2023, RGIA saw a significant increase in passenger traffic. According to the report, there was a 17% year-on-year increase, with 6.3 million passengers compared to 5.4 million in the same period of the previous year. Domestic traffic increased by 16% and overseas traffic increased by 22% during this time.
In the first nine months of FY24, the airport served a total of 18.6 million passengers, showing a remarkable year-on-year increase. The total income generated by RGIA in Q3FY24 was Rs 496 crore, a 35% increase compared to Rs 368 crore in Q3FY23. Overall, the total income for the first nine months of FY24 rose by 48% to Rs 1,472 crore.
Additionally, RGIA has expanded its connections, now linking 66 domestic locations (compared to 55 before the pandemic) and 19 foreign destinations (compared to 16 before the pandemic).
