The Congress party’s State leadership is happy with surveys predicting a “thumping majority,” but AICC leaders are concerned about the Assembly segments in the State capital and its surroundings. AICC General Secretary (Org) K C Venu Gopal has started touring districts to assess the situation firsthand. He is worried about the campaign in some important segments, where there is a possibility of a close contest. In Ranga Reddy district, there are 14 constituencies surrounding Hyderabad that need proper attention and the campaign is not up to mark. Within GHMC limits, the same number of constituencies are also a cause for concern. A total of 28 constituencies in the city and surrounding areas need immediate attention. The situation is good in some areas like Vikarabad, Pargi, Tandur, and Chevella, but for other constituencies, it is a matter of concern.
Venu Gopal visited the “war room” in Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday and had discussions on containing the situation before it gets out of hand. Ranga Reddy was the primary focus area, where the party has a chance to win if proper effort is made. The constituencies are categorized into A, B, and C categories. A category includes constituencies where the party is expected to win, B category requires some effort, and C category constituencies will be tough fights. The party is worried that B category constituencies might slip away if not properly focused on.
On Wednesday, Venu Gopal personally reviewed the situation in erstwhile Nizamabad and discussed winning strategies with candidates. He has started visiting and conducting reviews of combined districts to identify loopholes and improve the campaign to ensure the party achieves maximum numbers.
