Hyderabad: On Tuesday, the Congress party accused R S Praveen Kumar, a former IPS officer and BRS leader, of misusing funds that were meant for welfare programs. These allegations relate to his time leading the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society.
At a press briefing held at Gandhi Bhavan, Sama Rammohan Reddy, the Media Committee chairman for the party, claimed that around Rs 4 crore was spent just on teaching coding to about 240 students. He stated that while Rs 4.5 crore was allocated yearly for coding training in two schools and a college, the program was actually conducted in only one school.
Reddy questioned the expense, asking whether it truly cost Rs 4.5 crore a year for coding lessons for 240 children.
Additionally, the Congress leader criticized the lack of an e-tender process for these expenditures. He mentioned another instance where Rs 20 crore was supposedly spent on online courses for IIT, JEE, and NEET preparations. He alleged that no tender was issued, nor was approval from the Finance department sought. Funds were also allegedly redirected under the pretense of organizing summer camps.
