GADWAL: Balaram Naidu, leader of the Nadigadda Human Rights Protection Committee (NHPS), has accused seed companies of exploiting cotton farmers in the district. At a press conference in Gattu, he revealed issues with seed pricing and quality, calling it a betrayal of farmers.
Naidu announced a protest in Gadwal on May 31. Farmers will gather to present a memorandum to the District Collector, demanding action.
Farmers are struggling due to manipulated seed prices and quality reports:
– Price Issues: Companies aren’t updating seed packet prices, overcharging farmers.
– False Quality Reports: Seeds that pass quality checks are wrongly labeled as failed, causing losses and no compensation.
Naidu stated, “This is a scheme to rob farmers and increase their debt.”
Demands Include:
1. Re-sampling failed seeds by an independent body.
2. Action against deceptive companies.
3. Fair pricing and transparency in seed sales.
4. Government intervention to protect farmers.
The NHPS, led by Naidu, is organizing a large rally in Gadwal on May 31. He emphasized it as a fight for farmers’ survival and dignity.
“This is not a political protest but a people’s movement against corporate greed,” Naidu said.
Grassroots leaders like Venkataramulu, Dayakar, and others support Naidu. They highlighted NHPS’s role in advocating for farmers’ rights and pledged to continue the fight for reform.
The protest is a call for justice and transparency. With agriculture already affected by climate change and market issues, seed company manipulation worsens the situation.
The government’s response is awaited. The crucial date is May 31 in Gadwal.
