Hyderabad – On Thursday, police posted a legal notice at the home of T Prabhakar Rao, the main suspect in the ongoing phone tapping case. Rao, the former head of the Special Investigation Bureau (SIB), is currently missing and believed to be in the United States.
A court in Nampally has ordered Rao to appear before it by June 20. The notice clearly states that if he fails to do so, the court will officially declare him a proclaimed offender. Once that happens, the police can take strict action, including seizing his properties, both movable and immovable.
Officers went to Rao’s house in Taramati to deliver the notice. Since no one was home, they pasted it on the door with a warning that legal consequences will follow if he continues to avoid arrest. Investigators believe that Rao’s appearance in court is key to closing this high-profile case.
Adding to his troubles, the Passport Authority of India canceled Rao’s passport last month. This move came after Interpol issued a Red-Corner Notice against him. The cancellation was quickly reported to the Hyderabad police.
Sources say Rao had applied for a U.S. Green Card, but with his passport now void, that application has likely been rejected. Authorities are now working closely with international agencies to locate him and bring him back to India to face charges.
