The national general secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), D Raja, has expressed concern over the possibility of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He believes that it would be a disaster for the country. Raja emphasized the importance of the Lok Sabha elections and called on democratic and secular forces to quickly finalize seat-sharing agreements to defeat the BJP. The CPI has already started discussions with the DMK in Tamil Nadu and plans to contest in appropriate seats across the country.
The CPI National Committee recently concluded a three-day meeting at Maqdoom Bhavan in Hyderabad. Raja, along with other CPI leaders, disclosed the issues and resolutions passed during the meeting. Raja criticized PM Modi and the BJP for not wanting any opposition, calling for their removal in the Lok Sabha elections.
The CPI is actively preparing for the upcoming elections, instructing state leadership from Manipur to Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu to Bihar to complete the seat-sharing process as soon as possible. They are also working on a common election manifesto for the India Committee, with a special committee dedicated to preparing a manifesto for their party. Raja expressed concern over rising unemployment and prices of essential commodities, criticizing Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s vote-on-account for causing disaffection.
Raja also announced the CPI’s full support for the strike called by central trade unions and the KisanSamyuktaMorcha on February 16. He highlighted the recent state election results as a lesson for the leaders of the INDIA alliance, urging them to take steps to prevent the BJP from retaining power.
