Gadwal, Telangana – The Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPM, has urged local officials to help farmers hit hard by a recent fire in Pragaturu village, located in Undavalli Mandal.
CPM District Secretary A. Venkataswamy submitted a formal request to the District Collector on Saturday. He asked the government to provide financial aid and immediate support to farmers who lost valuable resources in the fire.
The fire broke out around midnight on May 1st, destroying 18 large haystacks owned by 12 farmers. These haystacks contained essential animal feed such as jowar stalks, pigeon pea husks, chickpea husks, black gram husks, green gram husks, and millet stalks. Farmers had purchased and transported this fodder from far-off places, spending large amounts of money.
The flames didn’t just destroy fodder. Several cattle sheds, oil engines, and borewell pumps were also lost in the blaze. The total damage is estimated to be close to ₹25 lakh.
Venkataswamy said the timing of the incident made things even worse. With summer heat rising and fodder already scarce, losing their stored feed has put the farmers in a desperate situation. Many are now traveling long distances just to find enough fodder to keep their livestock alive.
The CPM leader demanded a full investigation into what caused the fire. He also called for quick action from the government, including immediate compensation and emergency fodder distribution from state reserves.
Several local CPM members stood by the affected farmers during the appeal. Among them were Singaraju Maddileti, Upperu Narasimha, Advocate Lakshman, Madhu (Pragaturu branch secretary), and community members Chennarayudu, Ranganna, Hussain, and Danayya.
The farmers are now waiting for the government to act fast and help them rebuild their lives.
